All the cider making is now done for this year, all we need to now is watch (hopefully).Wild yeast is fraught with difficulties though we love it dearly. Each year it's always a bit nerve racking waiting for the wild yeast on the cider apples to kick in but it always does and produces a far more complex cider than the super grunty wine yeast most producers use. It was good to see the tell tale CO2 bubbles coming from the air lock on the barrel, it took six weeks to get going at 17oC and we were getting a bit worried really.... Last years vintage Pomona Traditionelle has been entered into the very prestigous Royal Bath and West show in the UK and we hope the judges like it. Andrew Lea is judging this year and he is the Michael Jackson of tradtional cider. You can see our new press in action on Youtube under TheElmhirst, 35 tonnes of apple pressing magic despite the dodgy wiring job. Wassail!!!
Marchfest this year was the best yet according to most. Despite terrible weather rain did not stop play and myself and the Wizard crew had a fine time indeed. John Copper Clarke was the star of the show and was absolutely amazing as ever, a true rock and roll professional and we got to meet him backstage which was great. Supergroove also rocked the tent wonderfully and will happily have them both back to Nelson every year!
